Barbie had been the number one movie for five weeks in a row until Blue Beetle took the lead this past weekend.

This weekend the new superhero movie made $25.4 million, while Barbie dropped to $21.5 million.

Blue Beetle follows a recent college grad who returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. It is said that as the grad, Jaime Reyes, searches to find his purpose in the world. Fate intervenes when he unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. This is said to “forever change his destiny as he becomes the superhero Blue Beetle.”

Barbie had become a box office sensation. The film has grossed several times its budget thanks to positive reviews.

The ‘Barbenheimer’ craze circulating the internet, which is people who watch both Barbie and Oppenheimer on the same day, also helped with increasing sales.

Barbie surpassed $1 billion in global sales more than a week ago. The film’s running total in the United States is $567 million, making it one of the most successful films of 2023.

Reportedly, Barbie is still said to most likely make a comeback this weekend taking back its number one spot.
