Disney has received approval from the Anaheim County counsel to expand its two Southern California theme parks.

On Tuesday, the council unanimously approved a plan to expand the parks by moving parking to a new multi-story structure and by renovating the current parking lot, in order to develop additional entertainment areas and amusement park rides.

This was the second required vote after the council had given its initial approval last month.

The plan will assist Disney in developing new, immersive experiences for guests by constructing a location akin to the movie Zootopia or the Arendelle from Frozen

In addition to the counsel’s spending of tens of millions of dollars on affordable housing, street improvements, and other infrastructure in the 345,000-person city, they said that Disney is required to invest at least $1.9 billion in the project over the course of ten years.

This is the first time Disney has sought a major change to its California theme parks since the 1990s, when the company obtained approvals to turn Disneyland into a resort hub.

Some time after, Disney’s California Adventure theme park was built in addition to the Downtown Disney shopping and entertainment area.
