On Tuesday, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Christopher Wray testified that the terrorist threats aimed toward the U.S. have escalated since the war between Israel and Hamas began on October 7th.

Wray told the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday that he sees “blinking red lights everywhere,” referring to the surprise threat of terror attacks since the beginning of the Israel-Hamas conflict.

During Tuesday’s hearing, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) asked Wray to share his opinion on the “threat matrix” that is currently confronting the U.S.

“What I would say that is unique about the environment that we’re in right now in my career is that while there may have been times over the years where individual threats could have been higher here or there than where they may be right now, I’ve never seen a time where all the threats or so many of the threats are all elevated, all at exactly the same time,” the FBI director told Graham.

“So, the blinking red lights analogy about 9/11 — all the lights were blinking red before 9/11, apparently,” Graham said. “Obviously, all of us missed it. Would you say there’s multiple blinking red lights out there?” he asked.

Wray answered, saying, “I see blinking lights everywhere.”

Later, Wray told Graham that since the start of the war on October 7th, “veritable rogue’s gallery of foreign terrorists” has called for threats against the U.S.

“The threat level has gone to a whole other level since October 7th,” Wray highlighted.

The director’s remarks on Tuesday correspond with his warning to Senate lawmakers in October, saying that the actions of Hamas and its allies will serve as an “inspiration the likes of which we haven’t seen since ISIS launched its so-called caliphate several years ago.”

“The reality is that the terrorism threat has been elevated throughout 2023, but the ongoing war in the Middle East has raised the threat of an attack against Americans in the United States to a whole other level,” the FBI director testified at the time.

Additionally, in October, Attorney General Merrick Garland emphasized that the reported threats against Jewish, Muslim, and Arab organizations in the U.S. escalated in the days and weeks following the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict.

The Pentagon also confirmed that there have been at least 74 attacks on American troops stationed in Iraq and Syria since October 7th. These attacks are presumably connected to the U.S.’s public support for Israel in its retaliation against Hamas after the terror group initiated the attacks.

The attacks did not involve firing ballistic missiles toward American military ships, which their commanding officers have directed to be shot down.
