On Thursday, the court restrained a gag order that forbids the 45th president and his attorneys from making public statements about the courtroom staff in his fraud case.

New York Judge Aurthur Engoron first issued the gag order in early October following a series of social media posts by Trump that were directed at one of his law clerks.

Attorney General Letitia James of New York is accusing Trump of business fraud, which Trump is currently defending against.

Judge David Friedman of the Appeals Court put a stay on Engoron’s gag order, citing possible First Amendment violations by Trump.

By then, Engoron had already fined Trump $5,000 for breaking the order on social media on October 20th and another $10,000 on October 25th before threatening to put him in jail if more infractions occurred.

Early in November, Trump stood to testify on his own behalf. He continuously painted James’s lengthy inquiry and legal action as a “disgrace” and an assault on both his company and his family.

Trump maintains that his assets were genuinely valued and he has since denied any misconduct and stated on numerous occasions that there were disclaimers in his financial statements, requesting that the banks review the figures.

In September, Ergon ruled that both Trump and his attorneys had committed fraud by deceiving those overvaluing his assets, including banks and insurers.

“They are defending the Worst and Least Respected Attorney General in the United States, Letitia James, who is a Worldwide disgrace, as is her illegal Witch Hunt against me. The Radical and Unprecedented actions of Judge Engoron will keep BUSINESSES and JOBS forever out of New York State,” Trump wrote.
