The first lady, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, Education Secretary Miguel Cardona, and authors took part in Monday’s “Hello-READ!” event, which included book giveaways and story time readings.

On X (Twitter), Jean-Pierre shared a video of herself reading books to kids who attended the event.

After she finished the reading, the president and first lady spent about 90 minutes greeting invited children from local public schools and military families.

Biden reportedly put M&M’s or Hershey’s Kisses in tiny boxes stamped with the presidential seal into the bags or buckets of the costume-clad kids as they walked up the driveway.

Jill Biden came up with the “Hallow-READ!” theme, as she is a former teacher.

Instrumental renditions of “Thriller,” “Monster Mash,” and other popular Halloween-themed songs were performed by a military band during the event.

According to internal documents retrieved by the press, roughly 8,000 people were expected at the White House, however, it was not reported how many visitors ended up attending.
