Investigators reported that on Monday evening 45-year-old Micheal Chastain drove through the front yard of a couple’s house. He then allegedly grabbed the husband and forced him to get on the ground while pointing a gun to his head. When his wife saw what was going on from inside the house, she grabbed her handgun and shot Chastain.

Washington County Sheriff’s officers received a 9-1-1 call about the incident. When arriving at the scene they found Chastain lying on the front yard with a gunshot wound.

He was taken to the Saint Vincent Hospital in Salem, Indiana where he later succumbed to his wound.

According to State Police, the alleged gunman is reported to have a criminal background.

They also stated that Chastain had once dated the homeowner’s daughter. However, the daughter no longer lives in the house where the incident happened. Police say there was no motive for him to attack her father.

The wife has not been charged and it is not clear if any charges will be filed against her.

According to the police department, the case will be eventually handled by the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office.

The identity of the couple has not yet been released to the public.
