Investigators arrested a LGBT activist and Princeton University alumnus last week on a charge of possession of child pornography, according to a local outlet.<\/p>\n
Writing for NJ.com<\/a>, Kevin Shea reported Tuesday that Roy \u2018Trey\u2019 Farmer was charged with one third-degree felony count of possession of child sexual abuse material.<\/p>\n The Mercer County Prosecutor\u2019s Office told NJ.com that Farmer had been arrested Friday at his condo, which is reportedly directly across from the main entrance to Princeton.<\/p>\n According to the 2022 New Jersey Revised Statutes Title 2C \u2013 The New Jersey Code of Criminal Justice, Section 2C:24-4 \u2013 Endangering welfare of children (NJ Rev Stat \u00a7 2C:24-4 (2022)<\/a>), \u201c[a] person commits a crime of the third degree if he knowingly possesses, knowingly views, or knowingly has under his control, through any means, including the Internet, less than 1,000 items depicting the sexual exploitation or abuse of a child.\u201d<\/p>\n If found guilty, Farmer could be looking at up to five years in prison and a $15,000 fine, according to the website<\/a> of New Jersey law firm Helmer, Conley & Kasselman, P.A.<\/p>\n Trending:<\/p>\n However, the firm noted, the prosecution will have to prove that Farmer knew or should reasonably have known that he was \u201cin possession of a pornographic image depicting a minor (or simulating the depiction of a minor).\u201d<\/p>\n Farmer could also be prosecuted under federal child pornography<\/a> laws as well, the law firm suggested.<\/p>\n Investigators executed a search warrant<\/a> at Farmer\u2019s condo Friday in conjunction with his arrest.<\/p>\n They seized \u201cmultiple items of evidentiary value,\u201d according to a statement from the prosecutor\u2019s office cited by NJ.com.<\/p>\n Should Farmer get the maximum prison sentence if he is indeed found guilty?<\/p>\n \nYes: 100% (78 Votes)\n<\/p>\n \nNo: 0% (0 Votes)\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n \u201cThe prosecutor\u2019s office said their Internet Crimes Against Children unit received a tip in January that a person in Mercer County uploaded an item that portrayed child sexual abuse material,\u201d the outlet reported.<\/p>\n \u201cThe information came from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n Farmer was being held in the Mercer County Jail, awaiting a Wednesday hearing in Superior Court, according to NJ.com.<\/p>\n A spokesperson for the prosecutor\u2019s office told the outlet that it would argue that Farmer should remain in custody until his trial.<\/p>\n Princeton<\/a> referred inquiries to the Mercer County Prosecutor\u2019s Office, NJ.com said.
