Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley said Sunday that if she wins the GOP primary and the general election in November, she will pardon former President Donald Trump if he is convicted of a federal crime.<\/p>\n
The statement came during a Fox News town hall<\/a> in her home state of South Carolina.<\/p>\n While taking questions from members of the audience, Haley<\/a> explained she believed the country needs unity and for that reason, as president, she would pardon Trump.<\/p>\n \u201cIf you were elected president, would you pardon Donald Trump if he was convicted of a crime in federal court,\u201d a voter asked the former U.N. ambassador.<\/p>\n \u201cYou know,\u201d she responded, \u201cif you\u2019re talking about pardoning Trump, it\u2019s not a matter of innocence or guilt at that point because that means he would have already been found guilty.<\/p>\n Trending:<\/p>\n \u201cI believe, in the best interest of bringing the country together, I would pardon Donald Trump, because I think it\u2019s important for the country to move on.\u201d<\/p>\n Haley explained that if Trump were to ever see a jail cell<\/a>, millions of Americans would be up in arms.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ve got to leave the negativity and the baggage behind,\u201d she said. \u201cI don\u2019t want this country divided any further.
