“We think Mike Johnson (R-La.) is going to do really well,” said Trump. “He’s fantastic. I think he’s going to be a fantastic speaker.”

Johnson became the GOP’s fourth speaker nominee in three weeks. The House Republican Conference picked Johnson as its speaker designate late Tuesday night. Reports say Johnson won 128 votes in the secret ballot.

This came after Minnesota Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) won the speaker designate role, but promptly bowed out following a statement from Trump urging Republicans to vote against him.

The House floor vote for speaker is expected to begin around 12pm EST.
