On Sunday, Massachusetts state police were called to the couple’s residence in Gardner, Massachusetts, at around 9 a.m. after Pennington’s four children notified a neighbor about the fatal crime. Police then discovered the 30-year-old mother of four dead.

Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. stated that the four children, who are ages 2, 5, 7, and 9, are currently in the custody of the Department of Children and Families.

The accused assailant is an Air Force veteran and has been labeled “armed and dangerous” by authorities after allegations that he may be responsible for killing his wife.

Pennington is believed to be a 33-years-old, 6 foot-2 inches, 175 lbs., White, with blonde hair and blue eyes.

On Monday afternoon, authorities initiated a shelter-in-place order for residents in the area near Pennington’s house.

However, the office of Garner Mayor Michael Nicholson announced that the order was lifted later in the day.

Additionally, authorities stated that they discovered Pennington’s white BMW on Monday evening when they conducted a search in a wooded area at Camp Collier. However, Pennington was not found and the car was unoccupied.

Local resident Melissa Zirkle, who lives near the Collier Campground area, said that the manhunt has the whole neighborhood “on edge.”

“It’s kind of petrifying, to be honest with you. Like I said It’s fairly quiet around here and we are friendly. You hardly ever see cops on this road,” Zirkle explained.

According to police, the neighbor of the Pennington family immediately dialed 9-1-1 since the family’s children came to her house “scared” expressing that they “could not find their father and their mother was in her bedroom crying.”

Investigators later mentioned that after reviewing surveillance footage and holding several interviews, they learned that the couple had been struggling with marital issues for quite some time. Detectives also learned that the mother of four was planning to move to Texas with the children in order to get away from her husband.

In addition, police mentioned that neither of the Pennington’s owned a Massachusetts firearms license, however, the deceased mother reportedly had a gun in the home for her personal protection.

Pennington’s sister, Brooke Pertile, spoke with the press regarding the tragedy.

“I know (Aaron) has some mental health issues that Breanne tried to get him to get help for, but he just wouldn’t,” Pertile told the press. “He just robbed my nieces and nephews of a fantastic mom and robbed me of a sister and everybody else of their friend.”

Pertile also urged the Air Force veteran to turn himself in and think about his children.

“He better turn himself in. He needs to stand up for what he did and turn himself in. And not be a coward. He needs to turn himself in. He needs to do it for the kids,” Pertile said.

Police have informed the public that if they see the suspected killer, they should not approach him and instead notify Massachusetts State Police police at 508-829-8236 or the Gardner Police Department at 978-632-5600.
