The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) has launched a search in the waters off Massachusetts for a medical plane carrying six people that went missing, officials said.

The Coast Guard’s Northeast District announced the search in the early hours of Saturday morning, noting that the aircraft is a Gulfstream G100 that was traveling from Bermuda to Boston.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported losing contact with the aircraft early on Saturday.

“USCG air & surface crews have launched in search of the aircraft. Updates will be provided here as info becomes available,” the Coast Guard stated.

It later noted that the most recent search area was off the coast of Nantucket. It identified the tail number as CGRJP.

The “C” prefix in the tail number signals that this is a Canadian-registered jet belonging to Latitude Air Ambulance, according to NBC10 Boston. The company is based at Hamilton International Airport in Ontario and specializes in long-distance medical evacuations and patient repatriations.

Authorities have not announced the names of those on the plane or clarified whether a patient was on board. No crashes or wreckage have been made public as of Saturday morning.
