Addressing delegates on the opening night of the Republican National Committee Midterm Convention at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche delivered a focused, law-and-order address.
Speaking at the convention on Wednesday, the Attorney General outlined the Trump administration’s tough on crime platform, utilizing public safety and border security as key pillars in the strategy to rally voters ahead of the November midterms.
Taking the stage as one of the evening’s featured administration figures, Blanche praised President Donald Trump for turning around what he described as previous “soft-on-crime” policies, emphasizing that the current leadership has consistently stood firmly behind law enforcement.
In his remarks, he told the enthusiastic crowd that President Trump and Vice President JD Vance have proven that societal order and economic prosperity directly go hand in hand while placing American families at the forefront of the administration’s justice priorities.
“President Trump and the vice president said that they have always and they will always back the blue. They put American families first. They prove that that order and prosperity go hand in hand,” he said.
Blanche’s appearance at the RNC-led gathering instantly drew commentary across the political aisle due to the historic independence usually maintained by the DOJ. Sitting Cabinet members, particularly the nation’s top law enforcement official, traditionally avoid speaking at party conventions, analysts noted.
In response to “ethics questions” surrounding the speech, the DOJ issued a statement on social media clarifying that Blanche appeared at the convention strictly in his personal capacity, maintaining that his participation was fully legal and had received proper clearance from federal ethics officials.
The address served as a cornerstone of the convention’s efforts to energize the Republican base by highlighting themes of public safety, border enforcement and rule of law. Blanche emphasized that the Trump administration’s law enforcement achievements are essential to national stability.
“If you traffic children, you will be held accountable. If you sell death in a pill, you will be held accountable,” he continued. “If you choose violence, you will be held accountable, and if you steal from people who work hard and pay taxes, you will be held accountable.”
