The United States has conducted a series of retaliatory military strikes against Iran in response to Iranian missile attacks on three merchant ships that were transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
On Tuesday, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) took to X to reveal that “powerful strikes” were underway, designed to “impose heavy costs” on Iran after they were caught “targeting and attacking commercial shipping crewed by innocent civilians in an international waterway.”
According to CENTCOM, the latest Iranian aggression represents a “clear violation” of the fragile ceasefire agreed upon just last month under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). It was signed by both nations on June 17th, agreeing to halt active hostilities and secure the shipping lanes in the Strait.
