Debra Haaland has clinched the Democrat nomination for New Mexico’s gubernatorial primary race. The former U.S. representative and the secretary of the interior under then-President Joe Biden will face off against Republican Gregg Hull for the state’s governor position.

Haaland (D-N.M.) won her race in a landslide, receiving 72.3% of the vote with 98% of ballots counted, compared to 27.7% for Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman, according to the Associated Press.

“New Mexico, thank you for believing in what we can build together. I’m honored to officially accept the Democratic nomination for Governor of New Mexico,” she posted to X on Tuesday.

On the Republican side, Hull, the mayor of Rio Rancho, defeated his opponents, garnering 47% of the vote with 98% of ballots counted, according to the Associated Press. He finished more than 12,000 votes ahead of the next-leading candidate, small-business owner Doug Turner, who won 36.9% of the vote. Former Secretary of the New Mexico Human Services Department Duke Rodriguez earned 16.1% of the vote in the Republican primary.

“THANK YOU, New Mexico! I am honored to be your Republican nominee for governor,” Hull said on X.

Haaland and Hull will battle in the November general election to become the next governor of The Land of Enchantment.

With New Mexico imposing term limits on the governor position, no incumbent was featured in the race, as current Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham (D-N.M.) is finishing out her second term.
