DeSantis Vows Florida Won’t Help Extradite Trump

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced in a tweet that the Sunshine State will not help extradite former President Donald Trump, who was indicted by a Manhattan grand jury Thursday night.

Trump spends significant time at Mar-a-Lago, a Florida resort he owns.

“Florida will not assist in an extradition request given the questionable circumstances at issue with this Soros-backed Manhattan prosecutor and his political agenda,” DeSantis, a Republican, tweeted, referring to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, a Democrat.

The Florida governor called the process that produced the Trump indictment “un-American.”

“The weaponization of the legal system to advance a political agenda turns the rule of law on its head. It is un-American,” DeSantis tweeted.

He added: “The Soros-backed Manhattan District Attorney has consistently bent the law to downgrade felonies and to excuse criminal misconduct. Yet, now he is stretching the law to target a political opponent.”

The charges against Trump revolve around supposed hush-money payments made to porn star Stormy Daniels prior to the 2016 presidential election. On Thursday, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office filed the charges under seal Thursday, The New York Times reported

Trump was expected to be asked to surrender to authorities in coming days. The details of the charges aginast him remained unknown Thursday night.
