Brittney Griner departed the medical facility in Texas and is headed home saying on her Instagram that she intends to play in the WNBA this season.

“It feels so good to be home! The last 10 months have been a battle at every turn,” she said in her post. “I dug deep to keep my faith and it was the love from so many of you that helped keep me going. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone for your help.”

Griner departed from San Antonio and headed to Arizona around 11 a.m.

As she boarded her plane, Griner was met by the General Manager of the Phoenix Mercury Jim Pittman, team President Vince Kozar, and teammate Diana Taurasi as a surprise, welcoming her home.

Griner was arrested on drug smuggling charges in an airport in the Moscow region on February 17th.

On December 9th, she returned home after a prisoner swap for Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, also known as the “Merchant of Death” conducted between the U.S. and Russia.

Backlash and controversy surrounded the prisoner swap with many wondering why Paul Whelan, an ex-marine, was not part of the trade.

Griner has joined the Department of Defense’s post-isolation program which helps formerly captive people regain a sense of control over their lives after lengthy detentions.
