Republican Sen. Rob Portman (Ohio) said negotiations over the infrastructure bill no longer include improving IRS enforcement laws. In an interview on Sunday, the Ohio lawmaker said the idea saw pushback by fellow Republicans.
It was also revealed that IRS enforcement would likely be part of the Democrats larger reconciliation bill. He said lawmakers agreed to a bipartisan bill and Joe Biden has already indicated these items won’t be renegotiated in the reconciliation package.

“That’s the two tracks here…we have the infrastructure bill separately from the $3.5 trillion reconciliation bill that is a strictly partisan exercise. More typical of Washington, frankly. Ours is the one that’s unusual,” said Portman.
Portman said more meetings are to come in order to figure out how the bill will ultimately be funded. He noted negotiators don’t have a solid bill to consider yet and won’t be pushed into a deadline before they’re ready.
