Christopher Krebs, the former director of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, urged corporate executives to focus on how to respond and recover in the event of a cyberattack. In an interview on Wednesday, Krebs advised U.S. companies to improve their security posture and most importantly their business disruption process.

Krebs pointed to several cases of ransomware attacks in the last few weeks alone while reminding businesses that no one is exempt from being targeted by these hackers. Hospitals and food production companies have been the most recent victims of cyberattacks. Brazil’s JBA SA cyberattack incident has occurred only weeks after the ransomware attack on the U.S. Colonial Pipeline.
“I think the take away right now is if you’re a corporate executive or a state and local government agency head and you thought that you would be spared that criminals wouldn’t go after you,” he expressed. “Guess what? They went after our gas and they went after our hot dogs. No one is out of bounds here.”
Krebs went on to urge corporate leaders to assemble their cybersecurity teams as soon as possible to lay out a plan of defense.
